  With more and more people purchasing notebook computers and smaller computing devices such as the iPad and other tablet computers, computer sleeves are becoming more and more popular as a basic protection device. It makes sense to purchase one because notebook computers and tablets are carried around very often and prone to all sorts of disasters. A computer sleeve helps protect the large investment you’ve made in your notebook computer.

  Most computer sleeves sold these days are made from a material called neoprene, which is a synthetic rubber known to be soft and lightweight. It’s well-suited for keeping spills and minor abrasions from damaging your computer. It’s also a good “second skin” for your notebook when you’re transporting it in a larger briefcase, canvas backpack or purse. It will help avoid scratches and dings that could be caused by other items in your bag such as keys and coins.

  Of course, a computer sleeve by itself will not provide total protection for your computer. It’s still prone to drops, and while neoprene is soft and water-resistant, it doesn’t absorb a tremendous amount of shock.

  So what should you look for in a computer sleeve? Here are some handy tips:

  • Make sure you’re getting the right size sleeve. Most neoprene computer sleeves come in standard sizes, measured by the notebook’s screen size (often 13″, 15″ or 17″).
